What an auto bay puts on a floor

A repair bay combines point loads, hot tires, dropped tools and a steady drip of fluids. Lift posts concentrate weight on a small patch of slab; a slab that is cracked or thin at a post is repaired before coating. Hot tires are covered by a ground slab and a system that bonds well; chemicals attack the film from above.

The chemical-resistance chart, read properly

A coating's chemical resistance is not a yes or no. Check the product's chemical-resistance chart for the specific chemicals, concentrations and exposure times — brake fluid, gasoline, motor oil, battery acid, degreasers — and ask which ratings apply to the topcoat, not just the base. Resistance to a splash that is wiped up within minutes is different from resistance to a puddle left overnight.

Solid epoxy, quartz or flake in a bay

System Where it fits in a shop Notes
Solid color epoxy with grit Office, parts room, light bays $4–$8 per sq ft
Flake system Customer-facing bays and waiting areas $6–$12 per sq ft
Quartz-broadcast Heavy bays under lifts $8–$15 per sq ft; thicker, more texture
Urethane cement Wash bays with hot water $10–$18 per sq ft

A lighter floor color shows spills and helps in a dim bay; a darker one hides stains but absorbs more heat from sunlit doors in the Antioch summer.

Traction and wet bays

A coated floor can be slippery when wet or oily. A heavier aggregate in the top coat adds texture, at some cost to ease of cleaning; the shop is responsible for keeping walking surfaces safe, and the product's tested slip value and its method are worth asking for.

A four-bay shop, priced

A 2,400 square foot shop in a quartz-broadcast system at $8–$15 per square foot, with a moisture-vapor primer at $1–$2.50 per square foot, runs about $21,600–$42,000 before striping. These are market estimates, not quotes.

Auto Shop Floor Coating — common questions

Will an epoxy floor survive a vehicle lift?

The coating bonds to the slab, so the slab carries the load. Cracks and thin spots at the lift posts are repaired first, and the shop checks the lift maker's requirements for the slab.

Which fluids damage an epoxy floor?

It depends on the product, the chemical, the strength and the time. Check the chemical-resistance chart for the named product instead of assuming a coating resists every fluid.

Auto Shop Floor Coating: check availability and price range

Bookings aren't open yet — a typical Antioch range in about 30 seconds.

Step 1 Range —
    Which floor is it?

Garage at home, or a warehouse, kitchen, shop, showroom, gym or clinic floor.

    How big is the garage?

Typical: a 2-car garage, about 420 square feet here.

Measure wall to wall; length × width in feet gives the square feet.

    Which coating system?

Typical: flake (chip) epoxy, the system most price guides list first.

What shape is the slab in? pick all that apply

Typical: a sound slab with hairline cracks only.

    Anything extra? optional

Skip if none apply; a moisture primer only follows a moisture test.

    What kind of business floor?

Pick the room that carries the most traffic.

How big is the area to coat?

Length × width in feet, or the square feet. Typical: 2,000 sq ft.

    Which floor system?

Typical for dry storage and bays: solid color epoxy with grit.

What shape is the slab in? pick all that apply

    Typical: a sound slab.

When can the work happen? optional

Typical: after hours or on a weekend. No price change.

    Anything extra? optional

Skip if none apply; coved base is typical for kitchens and clinics.

    Notes and photos optional

Optional: a short note or a photo of the floor.

Additional files (optional) If you like, attach any file related to your request. Nothing is required.
